Back to School in Bahrain

Education | Date: 22 August 2025 | Location: Manama

As summer winds down and the new school year approaches, families gear up for a new season of learning, routines, and fresh opportunities

Whether your child is starting school for the first time or heading back after the holidays, these simple tips can make the transition smooth and stress-free.

Mark the Calendar

A new school year comes with new term dates and a new schedule of extra-curricular activities. Print out your child’s timetable and put it up somewhere visible at home. It’s also a good idea to buy a white board to keep track of each child’s weekly activities. This avoids last-minute surprises and helps the whole family stay on track.

Reset Routines Early

Summer often means later nights and relaxed mornings, but school mornings require structure. Start adjusting sleep and wake-up times at least a week before classes begin. A consistent routine reduces morning stress and helps children feel refreshed for learning. For younger kids, a visual chart of daily steps; wake up, brush teeth, pack bag can make mornings smoother.

Get Organised the Night Before

Mornings in busy households can be chaotic, especially with the early starts in Bahrain. To save time, prepare uniforms, school bags, and lunchboxes the night before. A small “launch station” by the front door with shoes, bags, and water bottles keeps everything in one place. A simple checklist stuck to the fridge ensures nothing is forgotten in the rush.

Prioritise Health and Wellness

Healthy habits are the backbone of school success. Encourage children to get 8–10 hours of quality sleep, depending on age. Swap sugary snacks and juices for fruit, whole grains, and protein-rich options that keep energy steady throughout the day. Daily activity is essential; cycling, swimming, or even a walk after dinner helps children stay active and focused.

Ease First Day Nerves

It’s normal for children to feel a little anxious about returning to school. Visiting the school, driving the route in advance, or arranging a playdate with classmates can make the first day less intimidating. Encourage children to share their feelings and reassure them that it’s natural to be nervous. Celebrating small milestones during the first week helps build confidence.

Shop Smart and Early

Back to school shopping doesn’t need to be stressful. Involve your children in picking out supplies or lunchboxes, they’ll feel more excited and responsible. With many schools requiring specific uniforms and books, shopping early ensures you avoid last-minute shortages. Don’t forget extras like name labels, water bottles, and a durable backpack to keep things organised.

The start of the school year in Bahrain is more than just a change in routine, it’s a chance to build good habits that last. With a little preparation, families can turn the back-to-school season into a positive and exciting experience for children.
