Celebrating Languages at Nadeen School

Education | Date: 1 October 2025 | Location: Dilmunia

In an increasingly connected world, opportunities to work, study, and live abroad have become more accessible than ever.

One of the most important tools for thriving in this global landscape has been language. Speaking the language of the country we live in not only enhances our chances of success in work and study, it also helps us build meaningful relationships and lead richer, more fulfilling lives.

Emerging economies such as the Gulf States, China, Brasil, Russia, and India have played a growing role in global business and diplomacy. In this context, learning the languages of these regions is no longer seen as a luxury, it became a necessity. However, language learning extends far beyond career benefits. It opens doors to friendship, cultural exchange, and a deeper understanding of the world.

Many families today are multicultural, and numerous children have grown up bilingual or multilingual, gaining valuable communication skills early in life. Travel also becomes more rewarding when we can connect with people in their own language and experience life from their perspective. Language learning proves to be a skill within everyone’s reach, we have all mastered our first one, after all!

At Nadeen School, this global spirit was reflected in their diverse community. Each morning, learners from more than 60 nationalities walked through their doors: a true “mini United Nations” of smiling faces, rich cultures, and vibrant languages. They celebrated this diversity with great pride.

On Thursday, 25 September, they came together to honour this diversity during a special Languages Day. The highlight of the day was a keynote speech by Dr. Ali Bekki, Linguistics Adviser to the Prime Minister’s Office of the Kingdom of Bahrain. Dr. Bekki spoke on “Languages at Work – How to Use Them Every Day”, sharing valuable insights into how languages are used in government and beyond. This was a unique opportunity for learners to hear first-hand how languages function at the highest levels of communication. His message inspired many of them to view multilingualism as a valuable path for their futures.

The day was filled with vibrant and meaningful activities:
● The corridors were decorated with flags from around the world.

● Learners took part in a language-themed treasure hunt.

● Arabic and Chinese calligraphers wrote learners’ names in beautiful scripts.

● Music from diverse cultures played throughout the school.

● Language quizzes were held during lessons and form time.

But the day was about more than just celebration, it was about identity and pride. Recognising the rich tapestry of languages within the school community affirmed their learners’ cultural heritage and reminded them of the connection to Bahrain’s own multilingual society. In Bahrain, a simple walk through the neighbourhood could reveal a mix of Arabic, English, Punjabi, Farsi, Pashto, and Swahili, languages spoken side by side, reflecting the country’s inclusive spirit.

On 28 September, the Nadeen team also attended the World Languages Day event, where members of the European Union and numerous embassies gathered to celebrate European languages. This event offered a valuable opportunity to explore different languages and cultural traditions. It was a successful and enriching experience that reaffirmed the commitment to the importance of languages in education.

Nadeen School is a reflection of this global diversity. Their mission was to nurture curiosity, respect, and unity through the power of language. With this vision, they have invested in a language programme that includes Arabic, Spanish, French, and Mandarin. Their goal remains to grow this program further, inspire learners to embrace new languages, and encourage them to take their learning beyond the classroom and into their lives.

Language is not just a subject, it is a bridge. And at Nadeen School, they help their learners build these bridges every day.
