Explore the Bab Al Bahrain Souq
Head to the heart of Manama and immerse yourself in the bustling atmosphere of the Manama Souq. This traditional market is a maze of narrow alleys lined with shops selling everything from spices, textiles, and gold jewellery to perfumes and souvenirs. It’s the perfect place to pick up unique gifts and experience the local culture.
Grab a coffee at the Cinnamon Café which is an outpost of the Merchant House. Don’t forget that the Souk closes between Friday prayers and 4pm on Fridays. For lunch, enjoy traditional Bahraini cuisine at one of the nearby local restaurants. Haji’s Restaurant offers classic dishes like machboos (a rice dish with meat) or Bahraini kebabs and it is great value for money.
If you fancy a cool drink after lunch check out nearby Indigo at the top of the Merchant House. This 5 star boutique hotel was designed by renowned Scottish hotelier Gordon Campbell Gray and is a stunning spot to spend a few hours. Take the lift to the top floor and relax on the roof terrace under the olive trees.
